After I changed some settings, I realized later that Windows Updates had miraculously installed on the computer. I will see if I now get a notification for future Windows Updates when they become available, if not I will again have to manually go to Windows Update to get I have my updates set to auto to download and install the updates. If this does not work, you can always try the Microsoft FIXIT tool for Windows Update. It is free fast and I have never seen it cause a problem: I also On the next screen you will see the option displayed in the picture below: "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar", place a check by it and click "OK" if it just worked I would think I was in the Matrix. The referenced Microsoft article is worded poorly in stating that if you experience this error, Windows Updates will not install with the icon hidden. keep getting 80072F78 error all the time. Check the setting for Windows Update there (does it even exist?) try changing it to 'Show Icon and Notifications' and click Apply - then change it back to 'Only show Notifications' I wasn't too optimistic when trying this, it just sounded too unrelated, but I gave it a shot.
