If the hotfix does not work, the usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf files may be missing or corrupted. Now, based on this posting, I restored the usb*.inf files (and some usb drivers to the folder C:\Windows\System32\Drivers) and now everything works perfectly. To do this, sort the files by date. Reinstalling the drivers was useless and just ended up saying that windows could not find the drivers needed.
